Special Recycling Programs

Book Swap
Books that are outdated or in poor condition can be taken to any of the District Drop-Off Centers for recycling. Books are accepted anytime a center is open. Please give the books to the attendant on duty.

Note: October is Book Swap Month!!  Residents are encouraged to set aside their gently-used books and swap them in October for "new" books at any library branch in Spencer County

E-Waste --- Computers/Electronic Equipment
More and more computer manufacturers and retail electronic stores are participating in the "take back" programs for old computers and electronic equipment. When you are in the market for a new electronics ask about their "take back" policy.

When it is not possible to participate in a "take back" program bring your old computer and  electronic equipment to the District office to be recycled. Computer equipment is accepted at the office/warehouse facility Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4 pm. (Click here for directions)

Spencer County Solid Waste Management District is still offering Free E-Cycle which includes: Computers (CPUs); Monitors; Computer Peripherals such as keyboards, printers, scanners, etc.; Televisions - portable and console sets; DVRs and VCRs, etc.  The FREE E-waste  is accepted at no charge at the business office  during office hours -  Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm.

Where:    District Business Office (First drive west of railroad tracks)
When:      Monday - Friday            8:00 am - 4:00 pm 

          (Accept E-Waste every weekday 8-4 at Business Office)

                    First Saturday of each month

Where:     Chrisney Drop-Off Center (2nd drive west of railroad tracks)
The District offers free e-waste recycling the first                    Saturday of each month at the Chrisney Drop-Off                facility. (One time each month.) 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
    The next scheduled Saturday will be
      July 7, 2018  8 am - 4 pm.



The current fee schedule for computer/electronic equipment:

CPU, Monitors, Laptops
No Charge
Televisions, VCR, DVD No Charge
Computer Peripherals No Charge
No charge for printers and copiers.

Phone Books

Phone books are collected in the spring of the year. Watch for special programs and announcements. Many of the county schools participate in the Spring Phone Book recycle programs.
